Walkup's Way Home Removing the Underlining from URL Addresses

On a "Works Cited" page,  URL addresses should be typed in angle brackets.   Angle brackets can also be used in essays to frame a Web site location.

Framing URLs with angle brackets   avoids  confusion as to whether or not hyphens and periods are part of  the address or part of the essay.

Students often ask me how to remove the underlining that occurs when they type a URL address in angle brackets. I tell them the following:

  1. Go to tools
  2. Click on Auto Correct
  3. Click on Auto Format as you type

That’s it.

Useless typing trivia

Stewardesses and reverberated are the two longest words (12 letters each) that can be typed using only the left hand. The longest word that can be typed using only the right hand is lollipop.

Skepticisms is the longest word that alternates hands

The "save" icon on Microsoft Word shows a floppy disk, with the shutter on backwards.
