Introductions |
The introduction needs to catch the reader's attention and pull him into the paper.
Some tricks to help make your introduction interesting are as follows:
1. Set a scene/mood/picture through description
2. Pull out your quote book. Find a saying/phrase/adage/proverb: Begin with a saying and then set out to prove or disprove it.
3. Pull out your quote/anecdote book. Write an anecdote/illustration/example/incident
4. Use quotes of any kind from poem, songs, nursery rhymes, movies
4. Ask a question
5. Describe a person's physical appearance or a unique trait/characteristic
6. Write a controversial statement
7. Include an element of surprise
8. Include a note of contradiction
9. Write a short, dramatic statement
10. Use statistics to impress, stun and hit home.
11. Use a figure of speech (simile or metaphor)
12. Make a reference to a current event
13. Ask a rhetorical question.
14. Write a definition (your own, not Webster's)
