Weight training improves the heart.    Experts once thought that only calisthenics could strengthen the heart. Current research indicates this is not true.    Janice Horowitz  writes of the benefits of weight training: "The biggest benefit may be the creation of greater lean body mass, which burns calories more efficiently and keeps weight in check."

Horowitz, Janice M.  "All Pumped Up."  Time  6 Mar. 2000. 13 Mar.  2000 <http://www.time.com/time/personal/2000228/healthhtml>.

How to do In-Text Citations

IN-TEXT CITATIONS

1.   In-text citations should include the author and page number if these are known :

Turback claims that "regulated sport hunting has never driven any wild species into extinction" (4).

Studies indicate "regulated sport hunting has never driven any wild species into extinction" (Turback 4).

2.     If your electronic source contains no page numbers, then just mention  the author’s name:

Volti writes, "As with all significant innovations, the history of the automobile shows that technological advance is fueled by more than economic calculation."

3.  If the electronic source has no known author, either use the complete title in a signal phrase or use a short form of the title in parentheses:

According to "Children are Dying," A Web page sponsored by the Children's Defense Fund, fourteen American children die from gunfire each day.

According to a Web page sponsored by the Children’s Defense Fund, fourteen American children die from gunfire each day ("Child").

4.  If your article quotes an individual, you must make this clear.  For example  if  Smith  is the author of the article you are reading and he quotes animal activist John Doe, the easiest way to handle this is to include all pertinent information outside the quotations.  (If page number is known, include that in parentheses after the close quotation sign.)

Smith  concludes with the words of animal activist, John Doe: "Animals are not purses and hamburgers.  Animals are  feeling, sensitive, living beings like ourselves."
