- Introduction
- Did you introduce yourself to the
class?
- Did you tell the class why you selected
that particular topic?
- Did you do anything to get the interest
of the class (ask a question, tell an anecdote, relate an
interesting statistic, highlight the importance of your
topic?
- Did you adequately prepare your audience
for the body of the speech by stating the main idea
(thesis) and previewing the main points (topics)

- Did you clearly explain your topic -
define terms
- If applicable, did you present the class
with background information on your topic ?
- Did you provide adequate support and
specific examples to make your presentation
understandable, vivid rather than just
presenting general information that does not make as much of
an impact?
- Is it well-organized with smooth
transitions?
- Did you come up with an appropriate test
question for the students and did you cover it sufficiently?

- Ethics
- Did you present a few ways of looking at
your topic based on different ethical perspectives?

- Did you indicate you were approaching the
end of your speech?
- Did your conclusion bring a sense of
closure?
- Was your conclusion memorable (Did it
reinforce your central idea)?
- Had you presented me with a copy of your
exam question at lest one week prior to your oral report?
- Did the exam question appropriate
and did it ask about an
important point you made in your paper?
- Was the class able to answer your exam
question?
- Did you ask the audience if they had
questions?
- Did you thank the audience for their
interest and participation?

- Timing
- Did you stay within the required time
allotment (excluding questions after your report)?
- One letter grade will be deducted for not
conforming to the time requirements. The exception to this is if
students have questions AFTER your report is over. Questions
after the report do not count as part of your five minutes.
- One letter grade is deducted if your
question(s) has not been submitted with your oral report.

- Note: In addition to presenting quality content, strive
for a quality delivery:
- Good Eye contact
- Animated voice (clear, loud, well paced)
- Poised appearance
- Appropriate visual aids (if necessary)
- Interested, impassioned speaker and interesting presentation
- No self-deprecating remarks
- No verbal fillers (ah, um, er, )
