Walkup's Way Home    3-Foot Toss - Graduation Game

The Winning Team!

Persistent students tossed ringers and earned 30 points (and chocolate)!!

Students learned that short tosses are the surest way to success - one persistent action  (3-foot toss) after another is the usual way to success.

Success does not usually come by a lucky lottery (or 24-foot toss).

Graduation Day Rules: (as copied from On Course Facilitator's Manual)
  1. Today we're going to play The Graduation Game. This game teaches an important lesson about HOW to earn a college degree or accomplish any important goal or dream.
  2. I need 6 volunteers to play.
  3. Every player has the same goal in this game - to graduate as quickly as possible.
  4. In this game, you graduate when you earn 30 or more credits.
  5. You earn credits my making a ringers.  Each ringer earns credits equal to the distance thrown, and you can throw from any distance you choose. For example, a ringer from 6 feet earns 6 credits...
  6. Every one playing will take turns tossing the rings until someone earns 30 or more credits and graduates.  Before you toss each time, write on the board the number representing the distance from which you'll  toss...When your score total 30 or more credits, shout "I graduate!"
  7. So what lesson does does the ring toss game teach us about being successful in college? [Life is a breeze in persistent 3-foot tosses...Life is hard by the yard but a  in h  y the inch?  What would a 3-foot toss be like in college?..    Do you have large projects that would benefit from being broken into persistent 3-foot tosses?....

I ask players to say their name and affirmation before tossing the ring.
