Specifics on Posting Assignment

If you were taking an online course, instructions for the posting assignment would look like the following:

Lesson 1   Personal Wellness

Objectives:

  • To understand the importance of physical and mental health in success in school
  • To explore ways to maintain a healthy body
  • To explore ways to nurture a healthy mind

Lesson 1

Your mind and body may seem like two independent parts, but research has caused us to dismiss this idea and instead realize that the mind and body work in sync. For example walking as a means of physical exercise often helps the mind with thinking clearly. Nutrition, Stress, and Mental Health are topics worth discussing for college students.

Post your first comment on the  discussion icon. The following questions should give you a start:

What are your ideas on maintaining a healthy body and nurturing a healthy mind? For example, do you believe stress is an everyday part of life or is it something that can be avoided? How do you deal with it?

Depression is an illness that is more and more common. Are you aware of the signs of depression? Are you or anyone you know affected by it?

How do you take care of yourself with all of your responsibilities? Do you have special tips to offer others to "keep it together?"

Has going to college helped or hindered your health? Do you tend to skip meals? Eat more? Sleep less?

Post your thoughts on any of the diverse topics within the categories of nutrition, stress, and mental health.

Remember that a posting consists of at least 3 full sentences.

Lesson 2

Objective:

·     To gain experience in posting reactions to your classmates’ comments.

·      To experience  virtual discussions

Lesson 2

  • In Keys to Success  read Chapter 9 for background information.
  • Post an educated response to one of your classmates’ comments on the Class Discussion Page.  Use the information you read in the text as part of your response.

Lesson 3 Optional

Objectives

·        To contribute to the class by sharing your comments

Post a final comment on the Class Conference page that

  • indicates you have completed the distance learning segment
  • indicates what information you found most useful in this lesson on Personal Wellness   or that states your impression of distance learning

Lesson 6:

Objectives:

·        To familiarize you with the  Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium

·        To have you think critically about  distance learning

Visit the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium  to see if any courses appeal to you.

After visiting the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium, please fill out the same 7-question survey    that you filled out in class. Place it in your weekly homework folder along with your comments.

Your comments should center around the topic of "My Reactions to the Distance Learning Project." Did you enjoy it?  Do you feel more confident & proficient? Would you recommend any changes to this lesson plan for future classes?  What  did you like the most?  What did you like the least? Do you feel better about yourself, more confident?  What was your reaction to the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium  page?  Would you consider taking a distance learning course & why or why not? ...    These can be written in a paragraph or two. A formal essay is not required. I am looking for your ideas (not an essay.)   Thank you.
