Apply for Federal Student Aid

• When: Yearly - as soon as possible after doing taxes
• How: On the computer for the quickest response
• Where: At the following links:
  • First, secure a pin number at www.pin.ed.gov
  • ( Response takes 1-3 days by email vs. 7-10 days by snail mail)
  • Afterwards, fill out the FAFSA financial aid form at www.fafsa.ed.gov
  • FAFSA will usually email students within a few days to let them know  their application has been processed, and within several days students will know if they have been awarded aid.

DOs and DON'Ts

Do Not:

• Procrastinate - as your chances may be reduced
• Guess, rely on your memory  and include wrong answers and incorrect figures
• Rush and submit a form with typographical errors

Do:

• Make sure you're either in a degree or certificate program - to indicate you are serious about your education
• Contact Donna Ramos if there is any part of the application you do not understand, so that you can fill it out accurately and completely. Tell her of extenuating circumstances which would support your request.
