Walkup's Way Home Covey & Personal Responsibility:  Learning Objectives

After studying Covey, writing journal entries,  and completing personal evaluations,  students will be able to accomplish the following:

  1. Identify, define, and demonstrate a depth of understanding regarding the habits of highly effective people:
    • proactive:  actively creating opportunities and assuming responsibility
    • begin with end in mind:  understanding the necessity of planning & goal setting
    • first things first: understanding the necessity of prioritizing & following through
    • win/win: actively seeking the best solution  for all with an abundance mentality
    • seek first to understand: developing the skill of active listening
    • synergize: developing the skill of working creatively and  cooperatively with others
    • sharpen the saw: understanding the need for self-renewal and self-growth
  2. Identify situations wherein each habit can be applied during the following semester.
  3. Integrate and creatively apply  these concepts in many areas of their lives.
  4. Think creatively and intuitively regarding the application of and effects of practicing the 7 habits.
  5. Gain a deeper understanding  of personal responsibility through self-inventory forms and journals.
  6. Adopt lifelong habits that will improve the quality of life.
  7. Develop greater appreciation of diversity.
  8. Develop a deeper attitudinal respect towards each individual.
  9. Gain an expanded awareness of  successful & diverse individuals that have valued personal responsibility via reading quotes and journal entries. 
  10. Develop an understanding of the time management quadrant and the ability to analyze and monitor one's time management skills to reach desired goals.
  11. Develop one's class participation for  attentive and responsive group interaction. 
  12. Develop a greater sense of commitment and responsibility towards academics.
  13. Acquire a  sense of emancipation from excuses and counter-productive behavior.
