After reading case studies and discussing these in groups,
students will be able to to do the following:
- Apply critical thinking skills.
- Identify thesis (main point) and supporting ideas.
- Describe, discuss, compare, and analyze the merits
of various arguments.
- Apply oral communication skills to explain and
analyze ideas and make substantive comments in small groups.
- Speak publicly, intelligibly, and clearly on cases
discussed: persisting in college dropping out, grading
policies, contacting instructors regarding absences, etc.
- Develop a greater understanding of and positive attitude towards
group dynamics, class atmosphere, and the value of diverse
contributions to classroom discussions.
- Work
cooperatively and productively in collaborative and team settings.
- Attain
confidence in reading and speaking in an academic setting.
- Develop
relationships and a support network among peers.
- Appreciate
and enjoy the dynamics of discourse in the academic community.

Student who create case studies for class reading and discussion gain
